Questions begin the reporting process in “Tell a Story” class

Instructor Shawn Quinn jumped right into preliminary projects by having his students ask random questions they have often wondered about. In “Tell a Story: News and Documentary Production class,” campers came up with some clever questions to get their stories started. Piper said she wonders what makes things scary and plans to do more research on the topic. Elijah and Ben are asking, “how did sports get their names?” and Emerson, Lily, and Addie are asking “how do we define emotions?”

As the students bring their questions to the class, Quinn asks if they think they can boil the question or topic of discussion down to a three-to-five-minute reporting segment. Other questions included what sets humans apart from animals, why do we have nicknames, and how do we know colors are the same?

During the week, campers will dive into their topics with learning about credible research, crafting sub-questions, creating a storyboard, and finishing the week off with a documentary presentation on the final day in the multi-purpose room of the Honors College.

Questioning and curiosity are great traits being encouraged as campers dig deeper into their projects for the week.
