Sunday, July 14th was a busy day for counselors and campers alike, as it was move in day for Camp Discover 2! Campers returned to Western Kentucky University for another week of fun filled activities and classes, even if it was a scorcher outside! Friends were reunited and many hugs were shared in the hallways of Florence Schneider as campers settled into their rooms and met their roommates, suitemates, and counselors. After everyone was moved in, campers got to eat their inaugural first meal at Fresh and head down to Gary Ransdell Hall for play time and orientation. At this play time, campers were able to take advantage of the selection of hula hoops and balls that are also available to them every day in between classes to get their energy out on the grass outside of Gary Ransdell Hall. After that, campers were herded into the auditorium for orientation with Dr. Julia Roberts, where she gave a wonderful speech about camp and what the week is going to look like for the campers. After Dr. Roberts’ speech, the counselors got up and introduced themselves, highlighting their individual interests and areas of study. This shows the campers that there is someone close by to talk to them about what they may be interested in! Next, the campers and counselors moved up to the Colonnades right by Florence Schneider for an hour of Icebreakers, where each group performed different counselor-led activities. These included games like “Patella Tag” and “I’m A Camper, You’re A Camper” where campers got to learn about the other people they are going to be learning, eating, and living with for the week. It was a great day where many old friends were reunited, new friendships were kindled, and overall, the day was a wonderful beginning to the week of Camp Discover 2.
