It is hard to believe, but Friday was our last day. We allowed the students to sign each other’s yearbooks at the start of class before we took our last assessment. The students watched campaign commercials and highlights from the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump before we watched political satire over the 2016 election. After lunch students watched two of their peers role-play the legacy of President McKinley and President Washington. This year’s winner was Sam who defended the presidency of William McKinley! We also had several students role-play the candidates in the 2016 presidential election as they created their own Saturday Night Live version of the debate between the main candidates from last year’s election.
We then had each student put on a political mask as we traveled to another class to impersonate the presidents and some of their wives. Many smiles were had by all the students! We ended the class by handing out their certificates as they completed their evaluation of the class and their experience at VAMPY.
Friday was our final dinner where many of the fourth year campers shared how VAMPY has impacted their lives. I look forward to meeting all the parents Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:30. Mitchell and I have enjoyed working with the class this year. All the students we worked with have bright futures ahead of them! We hope they have enjoyed the class and their experience at VAMPY!
