The campers spent the Fourth of July partaking in a number of both traditional and unusual activities in observation of the holiday. Campers started the celebration in the same way that a number of Americans did by enjoying a cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs.
However, from there, they went on to participate in a “Conspiracy Theories” VCON. VCON is an annual collection of activities in the style of Comic Con, with a different theme every year. This year’s VCON included such activities as “Doomsday Survival Kits” and “Alien Dissection” to pay homage to a number of famous conspiracies, as well as “DIY Conspiracies,” in which students were able to make their own conspiracy webs involving counselors and celebrities.
After the closing ceremonies of VCON, students went back to their halls to quickly get ready for the final activity of the day – a Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball game. The whole camp made the 20 minute walk to the stadium together, where the kids were able to watch the game, talk to their friends, and enjoy the concessions available to them. The Hot Rods unfortunately lost the game, but the campers still seemed to have a great time. Immediately following the game, we were all able to watch a fireworks show to celebrate the holiday before heading back to campus to finally get some rest after the busy and fun-filled day.
