Chinese Thinking on the After Life

As Humanities instructor Dr. Tracy Inman said, “We might have started a tradition!” Her class and our Chinese class collaborated on Monday. My wonderful TA, Ms. Niu, and I presented on Chinese thinking about the after life including Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

How did I make people laugh so much while talking about a serious topic that some of them almost fell off their chairs? Imagine that! I think it is because some of my students helped me act out the concepts of “Chinese ancestral worship” in funeral processions with ancestor’s tablets! Thank you, Nathan, Cole, and Simon! Gretchen and Slaid also did a great job acting out “The Painted Skin,” a famous Chinese ghost story, to explain why female ghosts play an important role in the ghost stories of China.

We sure had a lot of fun!
