Today was another successful day for the campers of SCATS, who enjoyed another day full of fun-filled conversations with friends and engaging lessons with WKU faculty. After classes, students got to chat with other peers on all levels of Florence Schneider Hall, followed by an excellent trip to the Downing Student Union auditorium. The WKU Concert Band, directed by long-time employee Gary Schallert, had prepared a mind-blowing performance for the people of Bowling Green and the campers staying at WKU. The theme of the performance was “Classic Sousa Band”, where various school band directors had the opportunity to conduct pieces such as Tchaikovsky’s “Love Theme”, “Stars and Stripes Forever”, and “Slavonic Dance No. 7”. The last song choice was absolutely perfect, going for a zany mix of instruments playing broken chords of “Kansas Chicken”. Almost all students felt refreshed after the showcase, discussing with one another what their favorite musical piece was or what they would take from the show the next day. Tomorrow, the campers will get to choose an activity to do in the great Preston Center of WKU, a hallmark of physical fitness for all students on campus. Although there were not traditional optionals this night, there were enriching moments of musical satisfaction provided to all of the wonderful campers at SCATS.
