Genovia!

Through and Through!

Even though not every team can win the olympics, it is one of the most memorable parts of camp. One of the methods we use to emphasize that the Olympics is here just for fun is to have fictional countries. Some popular ones include the Void and Atlantis, and this year introduced the Republic of Pirates and Genovia.

These campers are always passionate about their countries. Most of the preparation for the Olympics is not documented. Campers will make friendship bracelets sporting their countries’ colors days in advance and wake up hours beforehand to do face paint and hair. If only “most spirited” was part of the point system, Genovia would’ve won. Genovia is the name of the fictional country found in “The Princess Diaries”. Our campers wanted to be as educated as possible about Genovia. And so, Princess Tea Time (the optional), was born. Genovian campers, joined by other campers, sipped on tea, made crowns and wands, and ate tiny pastries while watching the Princess Diaries during optionals on Friday. We prepped Genovians to be more aware of their country’s background and to act royally. Later that night, many Genovians finished preparing for the Olympics by watching “Princess Diaires 2” during our very own floor movie night.

The morning of the Olympics, campers dressed in their best royal clothes sporting their green, white and blue. Even Fresh, the cafeteria, got into spirit by serving pears, the National fruit of Genovia. Genovians wore their tiaras proudly all day, even if they didn’t win. To our campers, this is more than an educational camp. This is an exciting place to be for everyone!
