Counselor Corner: Braccen Flores

Braccen FloresLast Saturday at SCATS, the air buzzed with excitement as my fellow counselors and I put on our highly anticipated annual event: the SCATS Olympics. Six teams, each proudly representing a country of their choice, gathering to face off in a series of challenges. It’s a day cherished by campers and staff alike, where inclusion reigns supreme, ensuring every camper participates in at least one event. And with the array of activities we organize from dodgeball to musical chairs to art, there’s something enjoyable for everyone.

All day, the Olympics unfolded, a whirlwind of spirited competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. As the day progressed, we guided our campers from one event to the next, olympics to paper theater.

As the day came to an end, we gathered to announce the winners. Cheers erupted as Team Japan claimed first-place. As a counselor guiding this victorious team, I couldn’t help but swell with pride at the dedication and perseverance displayed by my campers.

Although proud of my own team, it wasn’t just the winning team that left an impression. The collective effort and enthusiasm exhibited by every participant was truly inspiring. Behind the scenes, counselors worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly. Yet, it was the boundless energy and passion of our campers that truly made the day memorable.

In the end, it’s not just about the medals or accolades—it’s about the memories forged and the bonds strengthened through shared experiences. And as I reflect on the day’s events, I’m reminded once again of the power of community, teamwork, and the joy of coming together in the spirit of healthy competition.
