The day has finally arrived and VAMPY 2018 has begun! Everything officially started yesterday with campers moving in to their dorms and checking in with counselors, although the real fun kicked off after everyone was settled in. The returning campers were already right at home with their old friends, even if they had not seen them all year, while the first-year campers were easily able to join in with everyone else. After our first hall meeting and hall time, we strolled down the hill to eat in the Downing Student Union. The inaugural dinner of camp is a great opportunity for campers to see the friends they couldn’t see during move-in or on their halls.
After dinner, we ventured further down the hill to Jody Richards Hall for orientation, during which Dr. Roberts went over some of the rules and expectations for camp and introduced the counselors. Following orientation, we gathered on South Lawn so the campers could break the ice via different games led by the counselors. Afterwards, we headed back to the dorms for some more hall time before bed.
The second hall time of the day was even more eventful than the first because of how comfortable the campers had become with one another after just half a day together. When I was a camper, I met some of the best friends I have; without a doubt, many campers will have that same experience this summer.
