A sunny and mild coolness filled the air on Tuesday, relieving campers from the previously sweaty temperatures. They appreciated the cool air, although some still had soggy shoes or bags from the day before. But soon the beautiful sun stopped shining down on camp, and the rain found a way to leak into plans for the afternoon. Campers barely escaped the downpour that followed their departure from their last classes and trip back up campus. Although some enjoyed running in the rain and jumping in puddles, many worried about the fate of optionals.
One of the great parts of being a counselor at SCATS is being able to witness the enthusiasm and energy in our campers that reminds us of ourselves when we attended SCATS. Even though the weather threatened to cancel activities such as Ultimate Frisbee, Making Friends Not Foes, and Lawn Games, the campers’ eagerness for fun didn’t diminish. The laughter and connections among us and the campers always makes it worth coming back year after year.
The fate of optionals never did get washed away — before we knew it, the rain was gone! Several campers even admitted to loving getting to slip and slide their way to fun.
