Bonds will strengthen over the weekend

Now that camp is starting to feel “normal,” the campers are getting to be more involved with afternoon activities and have more fun with them. We went to a concert from a community band Thursday, an old favorite of Dr. Roberts’. Music from “Grease” seemed to be a crowd favorite. Thankfully, the rain held off, and we got to do short activities before bed.

Since Seth, Andrew, and I led a relatively normal game of Capture the Flag a few days ago, we decided it was time to up the ante and surprise the campers with a new game. After Seth, wearing a Jedi cloak, explained the rules of “Star Wars: Episode 6.5,” Andrew and I burst outside in costume, dressed as Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren. After a dramatic introduction, I turned on the background music, and a massive pool-noodle lightsaber battle between 22 campers began!

At hall time that evening, some of the older campers taught the younger ones how to play the classic card game Magic: The Gathering. I started my preparations for the SCATS Olympics on Saturday. As Great Britain, we picked out royal crests for each of our “knights,” and other counselors made flags and taught their campers team songs. Several campers piled into Harsh’s room to watch the Warriors and Cavaliers game, but by halftime, it was room time, and the campers had to get ready for bed. We’re reaching the point when campers are really enjoying themselves and bonding with their halls, and when the weekend begins, the bonding will only go faster.
