Be a Writer Day 4

This week is just flying by! We spent yesterday beginning a new piece — a personal essay. The students are writing about a topic  in their life that they are passionate about. They also worked on a “Word Splash.”  This involves splashing descriptive words and designs on paper. The words and designs are also personal. We used black paper and gel pens for this assignment. Of course, time was also devoted to word processing, reading the class novel, and learning more Smiley Face Tricks. This group of students really loves to read, and some have already finished the class novel and are moving into a second novel, Transall Saga, by Gary Paulsen.
