A Trip to Space and Beyond: A field trip isn’t the only thing on today’s schedule at VAMPY

On Thursday, June 28th five VAMPY classes took a field trip to Huntsville Alabama to visit the United States Space and Rocket Museum. These classes included Astronomy, Chemistry, DNA and Genetics, Mathematics and Problem Solvers, who were joined by teachers and teaching assistants, totaling 55 people. Students and staff left the Gatton Academy at 6 am on a charter bus to have a day full of exploration and learning about the history and future of the United States space program. The students did not come back empty handed either! Many students arrived back with hands full of goodies from their trip, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets which sported spaceships, rockets, and even cats in astronaut suits! Even with a day full of exciting activities, the students got back just in time for optionals! Some of Thursdays optionals included “Tourney Time”, where students battled it out in two separate tournaments of ping pong and football, “Oooohhhmmmmm”, where campers got their meditation on in the Great Hall and were also disrupted plenty of time by “Avalon”, where campers plays the card game of the same name with former counselor and current TA, Ben Eustice-Guthrie. At the end of the day, the campers lugged themselves up to their beds, tucked out after a long day at VAMPY. After all, these experiences are truly what makes the weeks of VAMPY so great!
