And we're off! VAMPY Day one!
After a busy day of moving in, VAMPY 2025 has officially begun! On Sunday night, campers filed in for a night of introductions and icebreakers, getting to know all their peers and counselors at Florence Schneider Hall.
Returning campers reunited with past friends, while many of the new campers got to experience icebreaker traditions for the first time. Each counselor hosted a different game for students to get to know each other’s names, such as patella tag, beach ball toss, moon ball memorization, and rec room, where students could recommend some of their favorite media. We spent our first dinner at Fresh Foods dining hall, exploring all of the different meal options. Between the Mongolian grill, deli, salad bar, and pizza stations, campers had plenty to choose from! After a busy evening, we settled in for the night to prepare for class in the morning
As of Monday morning, the students have been working hard on their first day of classes! I’ve seen several campers coming in to lunch with proof of their work already, including debates in Presidential Politics and cultural brackets in Pop Culture. Camper Lowell Marcum shared his bracket with me, arguing that he believed the invention of the TV had the most cultural impact out of all of the items listed. The total bracket included subjects like Walt Disney, Saturday Night Live, and Bill Gates, but he said that the lasting effects of the TV made the most difference out of each entry. I’m excited to see what the other campers come up with, my vote’s on Walt Disney or the TV. I’ve already heard so many different arguments, I can’t wait to see more from each class!
