In addition to the SCATS Olympics last weekend, we also had Paper Theater in Snell Hall! In this activity, campers were randomly assigned to eight groups and had to prepare for 30 minutes to perform a classic fairytale with a “twist”. For example, Cinderella, but in the wild west, or Princess and the Frog in space! Campers created costumes entirely out of newspaper and devised the script and plot for the performance. This activity allowed the campers to exercise their creativity, public speaking skills, teamwork, and sense of humor! Some fan favorites were Shrek, but emo edition, featuring campers such as Dolly Harland as emo Fiona, Tallen Haag as the narrator, and Gabe Hudson as emo Lord Farquaad. They adjusted their tone of voice to sound like angsty teens, which was hilarious, and the plot was well structured. This performance was thoroughly entertaining, and it was hard to believe that it was created in such a short time. It was one of my favorites of the night! Another memorable performance was the Three Little Pigs, but counselor edition. A few campers in the group pretended to be the counselors narrating the story, as the big bad wolf (played by Nathan Boyd) portrayed different incidents that caused lines at Fresh to be crowded, which was such a creative way to interpret their twist! It was amazing to see the direction of the plot and costume design in these performances, as the limited supplies and instructions allowed the campers’ creativity to shine in this activity. Overall, it was a fun event to supervise and a great way to end the night after the SCATS Olympics!
