Counselor’s Corner – Wade Luttrell

What’s Fresh at SCATS?

Day 3 of SCATS is underway and campers are still having more fun than ever between their classes, optionals, and other activities. However, there is another key factor that plays a role in making SCATS the best possible experience for our campers, that of course being our dining hall Fresh Foods. Today at lunch I floated around and asked campers what their favorite thing was at Fresh. The students have had 3 days to explore their options so responses varied greatly.

When asked, Henry Shafer shared, “Power bowls! They’re so good and you get to mix greens, chicken, and eggs together and drizzle it all with yum yum sauce. I also think it’s so cool that they cook it all right in front of you!”. Callaway Weinburg stated “The salad bar is probably my favorite thing, everything is fresh each day and you can make it a meal by itself or have it as a side.”. Even our head counselor, Evie Ellis, shared her favorite thing at Fresh, “The potato bar is such a unique option and I love eating potatoes. Even when I don’t get a potato to eat it’s nice to know that there’s a large tub of sour cream nearby, I had pasta with sour cream last night!”.

Our dining hall offers such a wide variety of foods for our campers. From classic meals such as pizza and burgers to salad and potato bars to even a Mongolian food option! Even our campers who have food allergies and sensitivities can choose to go to True Balance, a station at Fresh that offers specialized meals at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

From my interviewing today I believe it’s safe to say that our campers are loving and exploring our dining hall and its many options!
