Counselor’s Corner – Nathaniel Annor-Giyamah

As VAMPY enters its final week, campers are making the most of every opportunity to learn, connect, and have fun. While classes continue to challenge them, many students also look forward to one of the best parts of the day, our afternoon Optionals. These activities give campers a chance to relax, try something new, and spend time with friends.

Each day, campers choose from a variety of Optionals. Today’s lineup included HeHe (Karaoke), MusicRooms, Cubes Cubed, Pretzel Training, Spa-tional, Blind Date with a Book, and Just Kick It. We like to give our Optionals fun and creative names, so campers must guess what the activity might be before signing up. In this case, Just Kick It turned out to be soccer.

Just Kick It was one of the most popular Optionals of the day, with about 20 campers signing up. We headed to the South Lawn at WKU, where campers split into two teams and enjoyed a friendly soccer match. The game was full of energy from start to finish. Campers encouraged one another, worked together as teammates, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the match. While everyone enjoyed the friendly competition, the real goal was building friendships, practicing teamwork, showing respect, and having fun together.

At VAMPY, our Optionals are designed to do more than entertain. They create opportunities for campers to connect with one another, build confidence, and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.

By the time the game ended, there were plenty of smiles and conversations about favorite plays and memorable moments. As everyone walked back to campus, many campers were already asking when soccer would be offered again.
