Counselor’s Corner – Jack Sternberg

Usually, Comic-Cons around the nation cost some money to attend. The VAMPY Con, or V-CON, does not have that barrier. Anyone could join in the fun, with more than 16 activity rooms for VAMPY campers to choose from over a four-hour span. Each event is split up into approximately hour-long blocks of time, which resolve and shift rooms to morph into a different activity after the time. Students and counselors showed up in amazing cosplays, such as character outfits centered on this year’s V-CON Summerween theme, or DIY outfits of their own making. After leaving for halls at 5:00, campers were greeted to Donatos Pizza out in the Colonnades lawn, where they could enjoy a snack with various water games set up in the grass. Campers slid down an inflatable water slide more times than we could count, and they launched themselves across the exciting slip-and-slide. Drinks and desserts were available after the pizza was delivered in the Colonnades, delighting the young folks in the crowd. Unfortunately, there was a setback in the original plan for this day celebrating our country, since a thunderstorm crossed through the venue in which we were to see fireworks. Our counselor team was flexible enough to show a livestream of the fireworks to all campers inside Florence Schneider Hall instead. Overall, this was a very memorable fourth of july at camp that will impact the bonds of of VAMPY campers immensely.
