The second week of VAMPY is in full swing. Campers are gearing up for a multitude of field trips this week as Photography and Pop Culture are ready to go on their individual class and Chemistry, DNA and Genetics, and Astronomy are going on a fan favorite field trip. That of course is the Space Center in Birmingham, Alabama. This is one of the most popular field trips that VAMPY has ever had, and as someone that went on this field trip a couple of times during my time in camp, it’s popular for a reason. Other than that, campers are enjoying optionals this week, despite the fact that counselors have started to get a little more inventive with the optionals. Some counselors led optionals such as YAR HAR FIDDLE DEE DEE, a pirate based optional that had campers itching to invade other optionals and steal their precious booty. During another optional, a president of VAMPY was elected during the Electional. Students created coalitions and nominated candidates who wished to implement ideas such as a second ice cream machine, a new air hockey table, naptime, no study hall, and more phone time. There are many more events to look forward to this week. More optionals, an interesting documentary about a Nobel Prize winning Kentuckian, a patriotic concert at SKYPAC, a dance and a fun filled weekend all await our campers as we officially hit the halfway mark for VAMPY. Stay tuned for more information about the exciting opportunities that are coming up for our students.
