Counselor’s Corner – Malachi Ibn-Mohammed

While classes are a big part of camp life, the fun doesn’t stop when the school day ends! Each evening, campers take part in “optionals,” extended activities that bring everyone together for some of the most creative and memorable moments of the summer.

Last night’s optional, “Electional,” transformed camp into a lively campaign headquarters. Campers nominated candidates for the fictional title of VAMPY 2026 President, complete with campaign speeches, spirited debates, and plenty of laughs. After hearing each candidate make their case, campers cast their votes to decide who would earn the honor. The friendly competition had everyone cheering and fully embracing the fun.

Another optional took on a swashbuckling theme as pirates roamed the building in search of treasure. Crews traveled from room to room “plundering” other optional groups, surprising campers with dramatic entrances and playful antics. Whether they were defending their territory or joining in the pirate adventure, everyone got swept up in the excitement.

Optionals give campers the chance to try something completely different from their daily classes while spending time with friends from across camp. Every evening offers a new adventure, from themed games to camp-wide events that get everyone involved. They encourage creativity, teamwork, and lots of laughter.

As camp begins to wind down, these evening activities become even more meaningful. They give campers one more chance to make memories, strengthen friendships, and enjoy the traditions that make VAMPY so special. With only a few days left, everyone is making the most of every moment together.
