Can one person change the world?
Their community?
Their school?
Students in Kaylee Moore’s Voices of Change class are learning how to do just that. The class got off to an interesting start that underscored the lessons Ms. Moore is teaching. They start out building community in the class through games and other activities. Vienna, one of the students explained that they had discussed the value of adventure playgrounds. They looked at a case where a community had filed a lawsuit against a company that had contaminated the water supply. The students discussed how long the community should keep fighting and whether or not they should settle.
Today’s task was designing a 15 minute city. After spending some time explaining a 15 minute city, they looked at the pros and cons and developed counterarguments. Starting next week, they’ll get to the actual designing. The a. re expected to consider the needs of all potential community members and be sure that everyone has access to the resources they need. The students filed out excitedly discussing what they were going to put in their city.
