Weâve officially finished our second week of classes at VAMPY! Students have gone through over 60 hours of instruction by now and are well-deserving of a break! Yesterday, we spent 2 hours at Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center, WKUâs gym on campus. Campers played basketball, ran on the track, and enjoyed various card games amongst their friends.
Luckily, this weekend will also be full of activities for campers to relax and unwind. Tonight, we will travel to the Bowling Green Hot Rods ballpark for a baseball game and a 4th of July fireworks show. Itâs sure to be an energetic game and a chance for campers to get to know the city of Bowling Green on our walk.
Saturday afternoon, VCON will be held at the Honors College and International Center. The event allows campers to dress up and spend time going to different activities surrounding the secret theme chosen by VAMPY counselors. Traditionally, campers are competing for âpointsâ to achieve some end goal explained by the counselors at the opening ceremony. There will also be a movie and a show for kids to enjoy throughout.
On Sunday, campers will participate in paper theater, a challenge where they are given a fairytale or story of some sort and a twist. For example, âCinderella in the Wild West.â Campers can only use newspapers for costumes, props, and anything else they need. They work in groups with minimal outside input to put together a play to perform in front of everyone. This is one of our most anticipated activities and always leaves campers talking about it for days afterward.
Itâs nice for students to have a few days to unwind after a long week of classes, so they can be even more prepared when Monday rolls back around.
