Our recent Pop Culture class field trip was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Nashville’s creative and musical history. We began the day at the legendary Hatch Show Print Shop, one of the oldest working letterpress print shops in the country. Students had the chance to see vintage posters, learn about the shop’s rich history in advertising and concert promotion, and even roll up their sleeves to create their own souvenir prints using traditional printing techniques.
Next, we headed to the iconic Ryman Auditorium for a backstage tour of the “Mother Church of Country Music.” Walking through the same dressing rooms that have hosted countless music legends, including the Grand Old Opry, and standing on the historic stage was a powerful moment that brought the legacy of American music to life for our students.
We wrapped up our day with a walking tour of Music Row, where students learned about the famous recording studios and the artists who made them world-renowned. Hearing the stories behind some of the most influential music of our time helped connect classroom discussions to real-world culture and industry.
Overall, the trip was an enriching experience, sparking curiosity and appreciation for the creative forces that shape pop culture. Students walked away with a deeper understanding of music history, design, and the behind-the-scenes work that powers the entertainment industry.
