Clash of Countries at VAMPY

Yesterday marked the VAMPY Olympics, one of the many traditions held at this camp. This year at the competition we saw Albania, Bhutan, Finland, Nepal, Panem, and the Sun itself face each other in a multitude of events such as storytelling, trivia, musical chairs, just dance, relay race, art, minute to win it, and dodgeball!  With face paint, bandannas, and all the campers got to competing and had an absolute blast! Once the main events were over, the campers faced each other in tug of war and followed by the winning team of tug of war (Nepal) faced the counselors, and the counselors were defeated fairly quickly. Later tonight the official results will be revealed, and a winner will be crowned and it’s looking to be a nail biter on who gets 1st! What makes the Olympics such a fun day for the campers (and counselors too) is the wide variety in activities and how invested everyone gets into competing. No matter who wins, the campers have had an excellent time and shown a competitive drive as well as good sportsmanship, both essential to a successful and fun Olympics.

After our campers got cleaned up from competing they boarded buses and headed to SKYPAC to see The Wizard of OZ on stage. Students were treated to this wonderful telling of a classic story with popcorn and drinks in hand as they watched Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion head off to see the wonderful wizard of Oz! I interviewed several students after the play and there was not a single negative comment made about what they saw on the stage! Many campers enjoyed the simple fact that this was something different in the camp’s schedule adding a bit of “new flavor” as Will Holdsworth put it to the overall camp experience.

Overall yesterday was a successful day for VAMPY filled with fun and excitement and we are looking to continue that trend into the remaining 2 weeks!
