Mathematics

In the past two weeks campers have challenged themselves with new courses in mathematics. Campers are studying topics like Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. Our students are curious and driven to succeed. Campers learn to delve into self-motivated study which will become a wildly useful skill in their lives.

Some of our campers have already finished entire courses moving on to a fresh course! We have had a student finish Trigonometry and move on to Calculus-I, as well as a student finish Calculus-II and move on to Calculus-III. These campers are highly motivated and show a clear love for learning as well as an appreciation for the beauty of mathematics.

We have also seen campers develop fruitful academic relationships in the classroom, and the campers are learning the true value of collaboration in an academic setting. When students can share ideas with their peers we see their learning skyrocket. Collaboration between students has also developed confidence in their mathematical abilities. Many campers who were shy and unsure of their skills at the beginning of the first week are now confident and capable in their mathematical course.

The campers have also taken part in a variety of academic enrichment activities. Last Friday the Dean of Ogden College stopped in and several students asked excellent questions. Then on Monday the students went on a field trip to Lost River Cave for an informative tour including a boat tour and visiting the butterfly sanctuary and active spring.

VAMPY is a wonderful place for these bright young students to share their passions and interests with likeminded peers and form friendships with one another, and our mathematics classroom provides these experiences for our students.
