Mathematics – Growing in skills and confidence

In the VAMPY mathematics class campers have been finding joy in learning and challenging themselves with new mathematics topics. Our students are studying topics like Geometry, Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Linear Algebra. These students set a bright example of what it means to be a gifted student.

They are curious, driven, and open minded. We have had one student complete Geometry in one week, moving on to Precalculus, and one student complete Calculus 3 in two weeks, moving on to Linear Algebra.

In conjunction with growing their mathematical skills, campers are also growing their confidence. Each student is much surer of themselves mathematically now as we near the end of camp than they were on the first day.

Students are also forming connections with their peers and fostering fruitful academic relationships with one another. We have two students in Trigonometry who push each other to do their best and work together on challenging topics together, and as a result their understanding of Trigonometry is much deeper than when they were working alone. These students have finished Trigonometry in a little over two weeks, and are excited to dive into the world of Calculus together during the last few days of camp.

VAMPY is a wonderful place for these bright young students to share their passions and interests with likeminded peers and form friendships with one another, and our mathematics classroom provides these experiences for our students.
