Teacher’s Talk: Presidential Politics (July 10)

Today we finished discussing the Obama presidency.  We also spent time in the library so the students could finish the research for their three presidential debate tournaments.  We spent part of the day having students compete in the quarterfinals in each tournament.  We have a Presidential Hall of Fame Tournament, Presidential Honorable Mention Tournament, & Presidential Hall of Shame Tournament.  We also examined different editorials for President Obama & Mitt Romney during the 2012 election.

Tomorrow we will take our last assessment, complete a creating writing over one of the presidents we have discussed & finish our semifinals / finals of each tournament.  After lunch we will also have a futuristic debate that will take place in the year 2040.  Students have formed three political parties & they will have to respond to a series of presidential politics questions that will be based on the future.  It is sure to be an interesting debate.  Students will end the day by dressing up as one of the presidents or first ladies by wearing one of their masks.  We will be doing a short presentation to one of the other classes.  Tomorrow night students will attend their final dinner & dance at VAMPY.

Just a reminder that parents will pick up their child on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00.  Teachers will be in their rooms from 10:00 to 12:00 to talk with parents.
