Presidential Politics Blog: Happy Fourth!

by Dennis Jenkins

On Wednesday in Presidential Politics we took time to pay tribute to our nation’s birthday as we watched part of a movie about John Adams called Independence. We also took our first assessment over the years 1960 to 1992. After lunch, students watched commercials from each candidate during the 1992 presidential election. Students then watched clips from the actual debates before they prepared for their role-play of one debate during the campaign. Each student either created a poster for one of the three candidates, served as a campaign manager, or role-played one of the actual candidates. Students then did a mock debate from the 1992 election. Students ended class by watching political satire from the election. There was no study hall because the students went to a minor league baseball game to celebrate July 4th.
