Hello, my name is Gina Poore. I will be teaching Freedom Stories chronicling the American Civil Rights Movement. The course will examine the tireless efforts of individuals to utilize nonviolent strategies – including marches, court cases, boycotts, and civil disobedience that provided brave black and white Americans the platform to join together to pursue the legal equality that the Constitution guarantees to all persons. Participants will experience hands-on activities with multimedia tools designed to enable students to produce their own digital documentaries on selected civil rights campaigns, civil rights groups, and the contribution of civil rights leaders.
Now a little information about myself. I am the proud mother of two precocious boys, Nickolas (7 years of age) and Zackary (6 years of age). My youngest son graduated Kindergarten this year and my oldest son will enter the second grade next year. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Social Studies) and I also received my Masters from the University of Kentucky in Curriculum and Instruction. After living in Lexington for ten years, I returned to my hometown of Albany, Kentucky in 2005 to teach social studies. Currently, I am the Assessment and Curriculum Coordinator at Clinton County High School in Albany Kentucky.
Educating our youth is truly a passion for me and I want to be able to support and guide a student in all aspects of their learning process and development in order to cultivate their talents and gifts. I look forward to meeting each and every one of the students in my class and I am so excited to begin our journey of discovery.
