This past weekend was a fun-filled weekend with lots of activities. Saturday afternoon was the inaugural SCATS Olympics. There were nine total teams representing countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation and Brazil to name a few of them. There were three main events: a dodgeball tournament, an academic team style trivia and a relay race. The United Kingdom ended up winning the Olympics with the USA (which was my team) coming in second. After dinner, we had an activity called ‘Paper Theatre.’ There were 8 total groups and each one was assigned a fairy tale with a twist. All of the props were made out of newspaper and masking tape. The plays were quite funny and it was also nice to get out of the heat and into some air conditioning.

Sunday morning we had a lot of campers go and attend local churches before lunch.  Campers attended church denominations ranging from Catholic and Baptist to  Presbyterian and Methodist.  After lunch we had some optional activities such as football, soccer, capture the flag and a ‘Magic: the Gathering Draft.’ During this time we also had laundry runs in which counselors shuttled campers off campus to get laundry done at local laundromats. After the optional activities, a cookout was held in the front of Florence Schneider Hall.  On the menu for the cookout was burgers, hotdogs and veggie burgers along with various condiments and toppings.

Classes started back up Monday and camp got back into its weekday schedule. After dinner we had Chad Phillips, the Assistant Director of Admissions and External Relations at the Gatton Academy give a presentation to the SCATS campers about the Gatton Academy along with 5 counselors who attended the Gatton Academy. The campers were given a folder with information about the Gatton Academy and quite a few from my group are interested in attending.  I cannot wait to see how week 2 of SCATS progresses!
