As VAMPY begins its final week, our campers are being exposed to new and exciting experiences as well as enjoying the last times for traditional activities like evening optionals and community time. Yesterday, campers enjoyed a break from the normal schedule in order to hear Beth Tyrie, a graduate student in WKU’s Geoscience program, speak about her career path and how they as middle and high school students can proactively start furthering their own futures. Beth’s story served as a wonderful model and example of success for all of our campers, but was also particularly inspiring for our young ladies who wish to enter into the fields of math and science. Based on all of their insightful questions after her talk, I could tell that the campers greatly enjoyed her advice and learned a lot!

Tonight, campers will be very excited to see the return of regular evening optionals! From Ultimate Frisbee to dance parties, our campers will be able to choose from a variety of activities. Over the past two and a half weeks, optionals have allowed campers to try new things and broaden their horizons, meet other campers they don’t see in class or on their halls, and simply have fun. I know that they will enjoy their evening tonight!
