Field trips and challenges make Physics fun

In the Physics class, the students have been covering nearly a year’s worth of material in these three weeks through the use of demonstrations, related videos, snacks, lectures, challenges, labs, and builds. We have covered Mechanics, Energy, Electromagnetism, Optics, and more.

Students have had the opportunity to build their own airplanes, helicopters, bridges, two types of motors, and speakers during study hall. They have competed against each other in the two physics challenges: the slow balloon race and the egg drop. The team with the slowest balloon to hit the ceiling won the race, while those with unscathed eggs in their contraptions passed the drop.

The class took a field trip to the school where Mr. Lee teaches, Warren Central High School, and campers had front row seats to his famous Wave Show. Featuring fire, lasers, and music, everyone was astounded and amused by the educational performance. After the show was over, the kids got to see Mr. Lee’s homemade hovercraft and got to take turns riding it up and down the hall.

With this year’s camp wrapping up in this final week, Mr. Lee has a surprise party planned for the students. After all of their hard work these past few weeks, they have definitely earned a movie and ice cream day.
